Adam B. Levowitz works have been performed throughout the United States and around the world. Mr. Levowitz has received numerous commissions from professional, community and school groups including Symponic Sketches by the Katy Wind Symphony, The Day Thou Gavest, by the Houston Symphonic Band, Deep Water Bay but the Association of Texas Small School Bands, and Greek Folk Song Suite- Mousiki Tou Teras (Music of the Monsters) for the Thoreau Middle School Symphonic Band.
Levowitz was the first recipient of the Moritz Von Bomhard Graduate Fellowship in music composition at the University of Louisville which led to a Master’s degree with an emphasis in operatic composition. While in Louisville, he studied composition and orchestration with Marc Satterwhite, Steve Rouse and Frederick Speck. He received his Bachelor of Music Theory Degree at the University of North Texas in Denton.
Raised in Houston, Mr. Levowitz began his piano studies at age eight. He studied trumpet at the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music with New York City Ballet Orchestra trumpeter, Henry Nowak. His studies continued with David Washburn, principal trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. His first professional jobs were playing trumpet in pit orchestras in Hong Kong. He sat in the Assistant Principal Trumpet chair of the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra for two seasons and played lead trumpet in the German-Swiss International School Big Band during their tour of India. Levowitz performed in Daharki, Pakistan with national pop-star Mohamed Ali Sheki and other musicians in Taiwan, Bangkok, Shanghai, and Beijing. He has played in an assortment of brass ensembles, German Polka Bands, and New Orleans Dixieland Bands.
