Read Bob Erlendson's biography »
Canadian pianist Bob Erlendson has performed his distinct style of jazz across Canada for over 50 years. In 1952, he joined the American Federation of Musicians and some of his earliest work was with Jack Winterton's Band in Sylvan Lake. Erlendson worked with bandmate Don (D. T.) Thompson for several years after that, touring across Canada and the United States. In December 1958, Bob went to Winnipeg for a two week job and wound up staying for six years, playing in such clubs as the Stagedoor and the Jazz-a-Go-Go. There, he met guitarist Lenny Breau and became his teacher, colleague and good friend. Bob returned to Toronto in 1967 and stayed until 1982, at which point he left for Calgary where he played with some of its finest jazz musicians, including Eric Freidenberg and Gibb Monks. Bob returned to Toronto in 1991 and still teaches and performs to this day.
