A soliloquy, or monologue, is essentially a conversation with yourself.  The most famous soliloquy might be that of Shakespeares Hamlet.  To be, or not to be may be one of the most quoted lines of Shakespeare. In this instance, the solo flute is engaged in a number of thought provoking musical displays, each of which must be individually addressed in order to move forward with the conversation.
