Fandango is based on a traditional fandango, a lively Spanish or Portuguese couples dance in triple meter typically based on the recurring descending chord progression i VII VI V. The couples dance is reflected in the spirited interplay between the soloist and band that immediately follow the emotive rubato introduction.
